To know about them, let us define the words subject, verb and object that are the parts of a sentence.
Subject:
The sentence’s subject refers to the person, place, or thing that the sentence is about.
Verb:
It is a part of speech that tells about the action of a subject.
Object:
It refers to the thing or person on which the subject performs the action.
Example:
Roman hit the ball.
In this sentence,
Roman is the Subject.
Hit is the verb.
The ball is the object.
Active voice:
The active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. It has the format subject + verb + object.
Example: Robert climbed the wall.
Passive voice:
The passive voice features the sentence in a way that the subject is acted upon by the verb. In these sentences, the verb is in past participle form and often contains the word ‘by’.
Example: The book was read by Mary.
Rules of conversion from Active voice to Passive Voice:
- Identify the tense of the sentence.
- Identify the subject, verb and object.
- Bring subject to object and object to subject.
- Use past participle of the verb in the passive voice.
- ‘By’ preposition may be used before the new object.
The following pronouns are used in the passive voice:

They – them
You – you
She – her
He – him
