11+ Creative Writing – what makes it more effective and impressive?
Creative Writing is a form of Writing where creativity is at the forefront of its purpose. Here the writer must use his imagination, creativity, and innovation to tell a story through strong written visuals.
Creative Writing is probably one of many students’ most challenging sections of the 11 Plus exams. The reason is that you could not gather enough thoughts under tight time constraints during the exam.

Tips to make your Creative Writing more impressive:
● PRE-PLAN YOUR WRITING.
Take at least 5 minutes to plan the content before you start to write the answer.
● SEVERAL EVENTS MESS UP
Give prominence to one event instead of messing up with several events, which leads to
confusion. Show the outcomes of that event at the end of the story.
● YOUR WRITING SHOULD NOT BE LIKE A “PLAY.”
Do not write the entire Writing like a PLAY. You can use a few DIALOGUES in between your
Writing.
● SIMPLE IS BEAUTIFUL
Could you keep it SIMPLE? Ensure that the sentences are not too complicated and lengthy.
● VOCABULARY MAKES IT IMPRESSIVE
Use good vocabulary. Your vocabulary enhances your creative Writing.
● STRUCTURE YOUR STORY.
WELL-STRUCTURED Writing makes it look beautiful and understandable.
● DO NOT TELL; INSTEAD, “SHOW.”
The reader engages with the story when the characters in the story depict their feelings.
SHOW what the character is feeling, and do not TELL.
● SAID is OLD-FASHIONED.
While writing dialogue, don’t always use SAID; instead, use “asked, urged, yelled, replied,
answered,” etc.
For example, Mary said to her boss,” ok, sir, I will complete the task”.
The above example can be written as Mary replied to her boss,” ok, sir, I will complete the task”.
● GRAMMAR and PUNCTUATION do matter.
Use correct punctuation in your Writing. Do not make grammatical mistakes.
● Ensure that METAPHORS and SIMILES make sense.
METAPHORS and SIMILES enhance your piece of Writing. Ensure that they make sense.
Use them carefully so that the reader does not confuse.
